MC New Energy is installing multiple Solar Weather Stations for Saudi Arabia's Al Sadawi 2GW Solar PV Project. The system delivers accurate solar irradiance and meteorological data for power forecasting, PR analysis, and intelligent operation of utility-scale photovoltaic power plants, ensuring reliable performance in harsh desert environments.

Supporting One of the World's Largest Utility-Scale Solar Projects

Saudi Arabia has become one of the world's fastest-growing renewable energy markets. As part of the National Renewable Energy Program (NREP) Round 5, the Al Sadawi 2GW Solar PV Project, EPC-contracted by Shanghai Electric, is one of the largest utility-scale photovoltaic power plants currently under construction.

MC New Energy is supplying and installing multiple Solar Weather Stations for the project, following its successful participation in the R5 MAS 1000MWac and R5 AHK2 400MWac projects. The weather monitoring system will provide accurate solar irradiance and meteorological data to support power forecasting, Performance Ratio (PR) analysis, and intelligent PV plant operation.

Accurate Weather Monitoring Across a 40 km² PV Power Plant

Covering approximately 40 square kilometers, the Al Sadawi project spans an area equivalent to more than 5,700 football fields, making it one of the largest photovoltaic power plants in the region.

Within a utility-scale PV power plant of this size, solar irradiance, wind speed, and ambient temperature can vary across different areas. Relying on a single weather station cannot accurately represent the environmental conditions of the entire site.

To ensure comprehensive and reliable monitoring, MC New Energy has deployed multiple solar weather stations, creating a distributed monitoring network that provides accurate environmental data across the entire photovoltaic power plant.

Accurate Meteorological Data Improves PV Plant Performance

For utility-scale photovoltaic power plants, Performance Ratio (PR) is one of the most important indicators of operational efficiency. Accurate solar irradiance data is essential for PR calculation, power forecasting, energy yield analysis, and long-term asset management.

MC New Energy weather stations integrate Class A solar radiation sensors compliant with ISO 9060, IEC 61724-1, and WMO standards, delivering ±2% solar irradiance measurement accuracy. The system is also certified with CE and EMC, ensuring reliable performance for international photovoltaic projects.

Engineered for Saudi Arabia's Desert Climate

Saudi Arabia's Eastern Province experiences summer temperatures above 50°C, together with frequent dust storms and harsh desert conditions.

MC New Energy solar weather stations are specifically designed for utility-scale photovoltaic applications in extreme environments, featuring:

Operating temperature from -55°C to +85°C

IP67 protection rating

Fully sealed anodized aluminum alloy enclosure

Ultrasonic wind sensor with no moving parts

Stable operation under high temperatures, dust, and strong winds

These features ensure continuous, high-precision environmental monitoring throughout the entire lifecycle of the photovoltaic power plant.

Proven Experience in Global Utility-Scale PV Projects

MC New Energy has delivered weather monitoring solutions for more than 40GW of utility-scale photovoltaic projects worldwide, including numerous landmark projects across Saudi Arabia and the Middle East.

The Al Sadawi 2GW project further demonstrates MC New Energy's expertise in delivering reliable meteorological monitoring systems for large-scale renewable energy developments.

Once commissioned, the system will continuously monitor solar irradiance, wind speed, wind direction, temperature, humidity, and other critical meteorological parameters, providing reliable data for power forecasting, intelligent operation, and long-term performance optimization.
